A 20+ year old Alko impact shredder here which works great but I do have 2 sets of the reversible blades and keep them sharp using an oil stone. Works great - there is a technique to using them though and I've found it's best to push softer green stuff through using branches and dried tall stems etc., which also creates the perfect mix on-the-fly, so it is ready to use as a mulch in 3 months.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
I just tried mowing the compost material and the grass at the same time, and it worked fairly well. I still had to pull a few long twiggy bits out of the grass box and go over them again, but I think I'll be sticking to this method in future. Especially as the two tasks arise at the same season.
