Sweet pea

Help! We have something eating or killing our sweet pea flowers. We expect them to open, the next morning go to cut them and there is just a stalk left and no flower , not even on the floor . Never come across this before and been growing them for over 10 years

    Not seen this on sweet pea specifically, but have had the new heads bitten clean off marigolds and other bedding plenty - slugs. Never any debris either. Are they near a wall/fence? That would be ideal access for slugs. 

    I’ve started putting out any old fruit/rind as slug bait and go out when it’s dark to collect the blighters.

    Slugs are unlikely to eat the flowers and leave no trace. More likely to be birds.
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Thank you. Definitely not slugs. I never contemplated birds as I didn’t think they would be interested and it had never happened before.
