This looks like an alpina, but it's flowering now, so that can't be right - or can it?

Yes - they can have a second flush later in summer or into autumn  :)

Yes, i have an alpina flower out - just the one! 😕 mine's a macropetala, love it but it's had a hard year - new fence and all!

We don't tend to get much reflowering here, as we have a shorter season,  but my alpina has the odd flower in August, and the Lemon Dream macropetala has one little flower just now.  :)
They're very resilient though. I cut the alpina right back last year at around this time, to paint the trellis/fence. You'd hardly know it had been cut back - it's filling the entire section of fence it's on  :)

Good to hear they can also be hard pruned!
