potato plants

Hello, I'm growing potatoes at the moment which have flowered but there is some green fruit growing from the stems. They look like tomatoes? Can anyone explain this please.

They are the fruits containing the seeds of the potato plants.

They look like tomatoes because they are related, but the fruits of potato plants are toxic so keep away from children.

Many gardeners remove them in the hope that the plant will then concentrate its energies on producing tubers.
