Which rose to choose?

Hi, would a Rosa raubritter be suitable to  accompany this climbing rose already in my garden?

Is a raubritter a climbing rose? Is it easy to train on a fence as the current one I have is hard to train and looks quite scraggly.

Thanks in advance!

May I ask why you want 'Raubritter' please?   it's not normally seen as a climbing rose, no..  I also deem it unsuitable for your purposes...  many other better roses to be had..

  • Okay, thanks. I like the shape of the flowers, how big they are and that it seems to produce a ton of roses. If there is something similar that is a climber I am open to others! 🤩
  • (Also open to all suggestions, not just ones with the cup shaped flowers) 👍

...well, if you really want 'Raubritter' I shouldn't be putting you off, because I always think if it's what you really want then go for it... you can train it upwards, because the growth is very lax and cascades, but it will take some patience training it...  it's usually seen as a big mounding shrub... certainly spectacular and each bloom lasts about a week, but it does only flower for the month of June, which makes me question if that's what you are prepared for.. there are no later blooms on that rose for the rest of summer..
...so it's doable, but personally I would not have the patience for it.. but if you feel you have the time and patience, and skill in dealing with it that way... then by all means give it a go..

... a very similar rose from the same people is called 'Jasmina'.. which is a climber and also cascades..  but has the benefit of repeat blooming throughout the summer..

..both roses are quite thorny.. and there are many others to choose from of course..

Can I ask what the climber you have coming up from the ground is?
  • Thank you Marlorena! That's really helpful. It does sound like a lot of effort for not much bloom. The Jasmina looks very similar and really nice!! I think I'll go for that 😁

Fire the climber/ground cover is Muehlenbeckia complexa. It grows very fast!
