It was 2 or 3 years ago now so I can’t remember but I just looked at B and Q and the prices seem astronomical! I definitely didn’t pay too much, maybe £100 for everything? Including metal foot things for the posts, cement, etc.

Wickes seems more reasonable. How long does your fence need to be?

Unfortunately it needs to be about 48 foot! 🤣

Wickes timber roof batten work out at around £1 metre longest length 4.8m but we always use a local timber merchants for ours.
I have spent many an hour painting battening lengths before it's fixed in place, sadly not with beer or wine to hand.

I agree to check a local builders merchants then and make your own! It would probably be better quality than you’d get at the shops.

If you want to grow sweet peas etc, it has to be a decent height - at least four to five feet, or they will look dreadful.
Make a simple screen yourself with roofing battens [as stated already] using some reasonable weight posts concreted in to attach them to. All you need is a horizontal batten, top and bottom, and attach the battens to that, or attach them directly, horizontally. They don't need to be as close together as trellis [about 6 inches or so ]  and you don't need anything else on them apart from some wires with vine eyes every so often .
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
