Wickes timber roof batten work out at around £1 metre longest length 4.8m but we always use a local timber merchants for ours. I have spent many an hour painting battening lengths before it's fixed in place, sadly not with beer or wine to hand.
If you want to grow sweet peas etc, it has to be a decent height - at least four to five feet, or they will look dreadful. Make a simple screen yourself with roofing battens [as stated already] using some reasonable weight posts concreted in to attach them to. All you need is a horizontal batten, top and bottom, and attach the battens to that, or attach them directly, horizontally. They don't need to be as close together as trellis [about 6 inches or so ] and you don't need anything else on them apart from some wires with vine eyes every so often .
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
