Mystery plant photo - identification please

I know that everyone apart from me will recognise this, I THOUGHT it was a fuschia when I cadged a cutting from a very old plant in an old garden..... but when I looked at photos in the gardening book... I couldn't see it.

Phygellius. Watch out for runners. It can become rampant.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Often known as Cape Fuchsia, it is a type of Phygelius.

Depending on which one it is, it's best to be aware that they can be quite invasive in some gardens, while other types can struggle to grow in the UK.

BobTheGardener - we are right next to the North Sea with hurricane type winds bearing balls of spume up from the beach...its survival in a pot outside the kitchen window is remarkable,  invading unlikely! However my ground elder (unintentional) loves it here. I wrench off every leaf to prevent it transpiring...but it just pops up and waves  :D
  • I agree it's rampant from personal experience!!!
