I was thinking if you when my two young boys came running up stairs this morning to declare there was a dead rabbit in the living room(!). Turns out my husband neglected to notice our lurcher had caught a baby rabbit in our back yard (six foot vinyl fenced in) when he let him out for the last time before bed. So there it was, a murder scene on my oriental carpet for my children to discover. They were quite upset. They weren't around for the dog's youth where we took him hunting rabbits (with permission on private property) in Surrey for rabbits stew in the crockpot. He's 13 now, much slower, and has never had success with the Utah jack rabbits (hares).
We had a cat that brought in mice alive through the bedroom window (bungalow) and dropped them on mums bed in the middle of the night. Mum had to catch them in a fishing net and evict them. Dad wouldn't get out of bed. We had a bit of a do with the one that got in the back of the piano. His brother that went to live at my grandmothers used to bring larger rodents in. He caught a rat once near a neighbours chickens, and my Aunt slammed the door so fast she took the rats head off. They had been trained young, their mother caught a mole the night they were born and gave it to them to play with. Mum thought it was a dead kitten at first. The bengal that semi adopted us a couple of years ago used to bring us presents, but they were always dead, and usually with the head missing.

The more I hear about/experience cats, the more I want as little as possible to do with them. Not a fan. Especially of the ones that view any freshly prepared vegetable bed as their perfect WC !
Childhood holiday memories of going down for breakfast at my aunt's house to find rodents under the table that I had to remove as no-one else would go near them. Happy days!
The "worst" gift any of my cats brought home, many years ago in a different place, was a large headless hare. I never found out who or what got the head..... or if there was a tug of war..I left him to it and he gorged then slept three days on the settee.
Cats are vital out here as else rats would take over. Never a mark on any mine killed and we think they died of fright or a quick nip on the neck. I grudge them not a toilet break. I used to lay wire netting over freshly dug/planted beds, Although my six have chosen the long grass on the driveway at the edge. Very neat and considerate.
Hearing all your horror stories makes me feel a lot better! I know it’s crazy to feel bad about dead rodents but they’re so cute, aren’t they? At least I don’t have to find them in my house... and possibly headless. 🤢

lol.... The shrews used to flee inside and hide under the settee. I had one inside for days. Happy to say that there are no rats around any more. I have all the island cats at my place
