I love cosmos so planted quite a few seeds, resulting in about twenty plants dotted around. Huge verdant things, with not a flower in sight. Only the one by the back fence has two buds on it. The rest look like fabulous LEGO trees. Clearly my soil is too rich... bah humbug.:)

I also used the plastic seed tray label things from WILKO, and the writing washed off at the first rain shower / watering. So I have two seed trays full of god knows what. I will never deviate from icecream sticks again!

Accepting a gift of two courgette plants. I don't even like them that much. I'm picking them before they turn into marrows and they lie accusingly on the work top before  hide them in the salad drawer.
I did worse and grew the blooming things from seed... they are handy as a sort of bulking agent in lasagna, that’s about it. One has already rotted and is not being used as slug bait!

I only got started at the beginning of May having spent the first month of lockdown getting the garden ready after 10 years or so of neglect. Supplies were hard to come by as well so quite a few seeds were sown late. As a result I won't get the amount of veg I was hoping for. On the plus side, I have a plan for 2021!

August 8th in America is National 'Sneak some Zucchini on your neighbors porch' day..  just in case your salad drawer is still full by then.. you can start the tradition in the U.K.

My mistake was doing a second sowing of bush green beans with what I am just now beginning to suspect was pole beans.  They are twice as tall (and now very floppy) as my first sowing.  I think I may need to go look for some spare canes and see if I can rig up something before they completely swamp everything on all sides.

If it's an option, do try and get your fruit and veg glut to your local food bank, mutual aid group, community food distribution, Olio food group and the like. There is a crying need out there nationally. I know a lot of forum peeps are rural, but soup kitchens, refuges etc are so delighted to get fresh produce to use.

That's a great idea, @Fire.  I foresee a glut of runner beans in a few weeks, having planted too many seeds, and now I know what to do with the spares...   :)

@Liriodendron - local gardening, school and community growing groups are also often keen for seedlings to grow on. x

    Hmm, where do I start...

Hoiking out underperforming stuff out too early, expecting to replace with other stuff then pandemic halted all online orders - expanses of bare soil in the borders are looking at me accusingly.

Dahlia Night Butterfly - soft green, lettuce-like foliage wilts in the sun, looking miserable with few flowers whilst all the dark-leaved super-blooming dahlias look on and laugh.

Impulse buy of a potted David Austin rose when I know they don’t do so well here and am busy hoiking many of the existing ones.

Agastache Black Adder, artfully planted in front of Heleniums, grew too huge and swamped the Heles. So I replanted the shorter (ha!) Blue Boa in front instead. Yep, you guessed it...

Not admitting I needed help to build up and extend a 16m stone wall. Another guilt trip, piles of stones reproach me every time I pass.
