Earwig infestation

Hi everyone. I live in Chester, and for the first time ever, I seem to have a very large population of earwigs in my garden.

Is anyone else noticing this? Could it be weather related or am I just unlucky? My poor echinacea are being eaten alive.

The traditional way of dealing with them is to fill a small pot with straw and place it, inverted, on top of a cane, so that the pot is in contact with the foliage of the affected plant.  The earwigs use the straw to hide in during the day, so you can tip the contents into a bucket each morning and dispose of it (your choice how) then refill with fresh straw until no more fresh earwig damage is being seen.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Hi
i had earwigs eating my clematis and someone advised me to put a small pot in the ground with 50:50 oil and soya sauce.  Holes in the lid big enough for the wigs to get in.  The earwigs are attracted to the soya sauce but can’t get out of the pot due to the oil. Unfortunately I’ve only caught one. You could also put Vaseline around the plant as wigs apparently won’t walk over it. Give them a try.
