  • Fascinating thread... thank you. Out here I have no access to takeaways and never liked them when I had. Not even had an ice cream for years as groceries are en route for too long and a two way cold box is impracticable. Also have food allergies. Love simplicity also. Someone dear to me calls my food" bland"; I call it simple! Now puddings....and cake! We lived through World Wat 2 but never the deprivations I am reading here. Loved the reference to a "fruit bowl" as a sign of affluence!

    Now you made me hungry!

Have you explained to him that his body is not a dustbin? @pansyface
An interesting angle and really pizza is junk food so who is talking about dustbins now!!!! I would not insult my body with pizza..
I've never understood why pizza with mozzarella and tomatoes is considered junk food while pasta with mozzarella and tomatoes is considered healthy.
(Not talking about pizza with four meats, three cheeses and cheese-filled crust... that's not a pizza anymore.)

"Healthy" is a meaningless weasel word only for idiot cosmetic companies and cereal companies. Like "Natural", "Wholesome" and "Nutritious".

O wise one! Thank you! And I am a very simple old soul. and allergic to tomatoes. Cheese is Cheddar here! Not some fancy foreign stuff. lol.... Good Irish Cheddar. I have this discussion with one of my distant family as she loves curry and spices . Just different folk is all. As long as you are happy with what you eat.

A pizza doesn’t have to be a junk takeaway ...  on Saturday evenings we often have homemade pizza .... a thin homemade sourdough base, homecooked tomato and onion topping, simmered and reduced on the hob in the morning while I knead the dough ... at supper time I roll out and stretch the dough, spread it with the tomato goo, tear mozzarella cheese into thin ‘peelings’ and scatter over along with some olives and a few anchovies, drizzle with a little olive oil  and bake for 12 mins in a hot oven ..... not junk food .... nothing like junk food .... that’s healthy home cooking if you ask me ... see my photo on the previous page.

@Dovefromabove completely agree, most meals can be “junk” or home cooked and nutritious totally depends on the chef. Your pizza sounds delicious and healthy too.

It took a bit of work, but I have weaned my husband off analogue cheese and dyed pink offal pizzas.
He can now construct a reasonably healthy pizza using flatbread as a base. I rarely eat pizza myself. When I fancy something he doesn't like I tell him I'm making _____ tonight. You can make yourself a pizza. If I'm feeling kind, I even chop up the vegetables for him😇

    It's a thing. A disgusting thing
"Cheese analogue or imitation cheese with its other name, mozzarella cheese analogue (MCA) is defined as products made milk, dairy fat and other ingredients namely protein in the presence of emulsifying salts by the use of particularly vegetable-originated different non-milk constituents under the influence of thermal and mechanical energy."
