Salix tree leaves gone brown

Noticed my salix tree which I bought only 2 months ago, had dropping leaves so I gave it a good soaking. Went in to my garden today and 50% of it has brown shrivelled up leaves. What can I do to save it? Should I cut off the dead leaves? It’s still in the pot it came in.

It's a willow so it likes to get its roots down deep to seek out water.  I expect it's dying of thirst and probably pot bound too.   Give it a good soaking and then plant it out somewhere it can thrive and don't let it get thirsty again between now and autumn.
