If you keep an eye on the forecast it shouldn't be too hard to find a dry day to reapply (it's OK for it to rain after the stuff has been absorbed, you don't need the whole two weeks to be dry).

Not a very positive person then @warwickbear1973+8 .  August and September will provide some sun and you do only need 6 dry hours.

@Obelixx I look after my mother full time who is in a hospital bed at home with advanced dementia so I'm amazed that I have had the energy and resolve to achieve what I have in the garden. From time to time,I do feel depressed, life can feel bleak. It's during these moments I can feel a bit defeated,I think it would be easy for anyone in my position to feel that way.

I understand but maybe, as you seem to have a grasp of your situation, it could be easier to see the little rays of light when they do appear and take full advantage of them.

Good luck with your grass.   Just think of the sense of achievement when it does all come together.

Hi,thanks,I will pull through.I think we were spoilt with the lovely sunshine earlier in the year with those blue skies, and the overcast sky has replaced it has taken the spring out of my step.
I'm going to order some more weedkiller this afternoon and when the job has been completed when ever that may be,as you say it will give me a sense of achievement when everything comes together.
It will make me feel good that I have brought things up to a good standard for my mum.

NEVER use Roundup on a Lawn. You will totally destroy it. I am very against the use of chemicals in the garden, they are invariably harmful to wildlife. In the case of thistles they don't work very well anyway. Use a small blowtorch, such as chefs use to crisp pasta. It will leave a small brown patch but thhis will soon grow over.

To kill the roots with a chef's blowtorch you'd be there for an awfully long time, and probably leave more than a small brown patch. If you don't want to use chemicals you could dig the roots out.

    I’m glad you don’t cook my meals @Inglezinho ... crisp pasta!!! ? 😨🤢🤪

To kill thistles and other weeds with taproots in the lawn the simplest and most effective way is to buy a stick of Roundup Gel .. dab it on the leaves as the directions describe, then walk away and forget about it for a couple of weeks.

The weeds will turn brown and wither away.

It will not affect the surrounding grass and the use of the weedkiller is targeted and as minimal as possible.

Hi thanks that's really handy and a link too, that particular store was out of stock but it helped me find it at Amazon.I had heard about a gel being mentioned in an aticle last week, but failed to find it when looking,so it's great to see it does exist,I will order one.

It’s what I use, very occasionally, to deal with the odd deep rooted weed in the front lawn. It saves treating the whole lawn with a lawn weed & feed type chemical. Mine sits in the garage and has lasted years ... a couple of dabs the size of a teaspoon each year is all I use.
