It's not a good picture (as you can see I am in the middle of battling ivy behind it) but here it is... being very wide, flowers all one plant, rendering Heritage rose and Eustacia Vye rose on either side, and all the other bedding plants at the front, nearly invisible.
It would be taller but it's growing at a 30 degree angle (trampled by dog). Huge stem, like a sunflower's... may need help to pull it up in a couple of weeks!
I sowed it as a dwarf type to cover the rose stake. Won't make that error again. It liked the rosefeed a little too much, wouldn't you agree?
Wow It certainly doesn't need feeding - but I do enjoy cosmos trees and all the late colour. I love the idea of an annual forest. Did you feed it on purpose (out of interest) or were you feeding something else close by?
Another plant that grows a massive 'trunk' in a single season is Himalayan balsam. Not a welcome sight here along the waterside so I try to remove any that I see, but if young plants are missed, they don't half grow and take a lot of effort to pull up. The courgettes of the decorative world of plants! Cosmos seem to have developed this statuesque habit more and more over the years for some reason. I stopped growing them but must try again in poorer soil.

I was feeding the tree rose behind it. Or so I thought lol
