Bonsoir, Jacqui. I put the flowering one in a pot of fresh compost because the soil around the post it grows up is non-existent. Just a big concrete lump, really. The soil along the fence is, as I mentioned earlier, clay and builder's rubble, recently dug over when a new fence was put up. I did chisel a strip out and tipped compost into it before transplanting the plants, however, as in summer the soil is very dry and hard and I wanted the roots to have a chance to get going. Obviously they did, but I don't have a clue where they are finding richness in the soil. Just like the passion flower did...
My Morning Glory has finally flowered today just as summer comes to and end! I don't think I'll bother with them next year if they're going to take this long.
This rather unhealthy looking plant finally produced 2 flowers today: This rather healthier one has buds not but still no flowers:
I think there's hope for mine yet, three of them have covered a a 12 feet length of 5 feet high fence, increased its height by another foot and are growing down the other side, rather pleasingly as this deters bad neighbour from parking her bike against it (there are of course plenty of other places to park the bike, other than on the communal access path, including her own garden). The plants have also managed to snap their trellis. And buds have finally appeared, lots of them. The show had better be worth it!
I'm just hoping the weather won't get too cold for them before they flower. However, the plan was to have them flowering in the summer as both are next to places we regularly sit out. I can't see that we're likely to be sitting out much now the weather has worsened.
