Hedgehogs digging up my vegetable plants.

I was delighted to discover that after a gap of many years that I had a hedgehog coming into my garden.
Despite putting food down for it once it’s cleared the bowl it then goes digging for worms in my veg plot often uprooting my plants.
Is there anything I can do to dissuade it from doing this.

when there were badgers that visited pouring urine around their entry points worked reasonably well, would it work for hedgehogs.

I really don’t want to stop it coming in but I would like to save my plants.

Probably too late to do this now they're growing, but maybe in future you could lay some wire mesh over the soil once you've sown or planted it.  In the meantime, is there a patch of soil you could dig over and leave it for them to forage in?  It would be easier for them to find worms in soil that is freshly turned.
