Of course the blackbirds may consider that you're invading their patch.

Invading!?  The little so-and-so's expect me to dig it over and then get out the way while they have lunch!

Why have a dog and bark yourself?

A black bird couple recently moved into our garden. They are very cheerful and a joy to watch, plus they do some pest control. However Mrs. Black Bird for some reason dislikes our cat and literally bullies him out of the garden. Even when he sleeps in the conservatory as soon as the door is open she is sitting right next to the entrance and squeaks angrily at him. She is lucky Tommy is the most chilled cat in the world 😂😺

I discovered that our blackbird like snails. Even more, he likes me to tread on them first. The squirrels eat crocus and in a bad year they stripped all the cobs of almost ripe sweetcorn, the unripe apricots, hazelnuts not quite ready, and quite partial to a pear.  In spring one of them took a fancy to the camellia flowers.

I think they'll try anything and discard it if they don't like it.

Thanks everyone, we actually watch them doing it, but makes sense now that they are after grubs/insects. The squirrels prefer my cobnuts.
