Help with Apple tree

Hi, inherited this apple tree when we moved in last year. Last year I noticed quite a lot of powdery mildue and so removed those leaves/branches. Much less powdery mildue this year but I've noticed the leaves seem rather dry with some having brown parts on them. Also seems to be less apples this year although I guess that could just be the variety? Could this just be because of the dry weather? I've fed with potash in the spring and have tried to water the grass and tree when I can. Any ideas?

I've attached a couple of pictures.

Many thanks, Ed

Have you noticed if the tree is a spur bearer or a tip bearer? If tip the cutting will have removed some of the fruit, if spur then cutting back the side shoots to 2/3 leaves will encourage fruiting, and help to open up the centre to air helping with any moisture problems.
