New clematis - looking very sorry for itself

I bought a clematis amethyst beauty 2 weeks ago - healthy foliage, in bloom, about 75cm tall. I’ve planted deeply and watered well but the flowers are dying and the foliage is wilting. I planted two different types in a similar way at the same time and they are doing well. Does anyone know what has gone wrong and what I should do please? Many thanks.

You may have broken a stem without realising or it's been chewed by slugs or snails.  Keep it watered as the roots may well throw up new shoots.   You may have to wait till next spring so be patient and don't disturb the roots.

  • That’s helpful info, thank you. I can’t see any damage on the stems so will leave well alone. Do you think I should take the flowers off now? Thank you.

You may as well as they won't perk up even if the stems and foliage do.
