Maybe eggs or fungus? How can I best get rid of it?

    Looks like the attractively named Dog-Sick slime mould (Mucilago crustacea).

    A primitive and interesting life-form ; apparently can be beneficial as they 'feed' on dead organic matter and bacteria .
    Not very attractive though to look at ; can be physically removed with a spade or leave for the drier weather to take its toll .
