Small sapling/tree ID help required.

A couple of years ago a small sapling appeared in a pot of spent compost. I kept it just to see if it would continue to grow which it did. This year I've potted it on into a larger pot and it's thrived. I don't have a blooming clue as to what it is though, can anyone help at all?

Birch tree

I did wonder if it might be a birch as we have a couple in the garden, hubby didn't think it was. Thank you @nutcutlet
