Sawfly extermination

Hi. Quick question. I’m currently digging out my Solomon seal due to years of sawfly domination. I plan to dig over the soil and fertilise well but will this stop them coming back into new plants (not Solomon seal) which I’ll plant in their place? There are hundreds falling into the soil as I dig! Horrible!!
Many thanks
Flo.

The Soloman's seal sawfly is specific to that plant and won't eat anything else so you'll be fine. :)
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

The Solomon Seal returns next year as though nothing had happened, we have had our plants for many years, wouldn't dream of removing them, because of the sawfly.

Thanks Bob. That’s what I needed to hear . I’ve seen a few on surrounding plants but they didn’t have the same devastating effect .
  • Yes mine comes back too but we only have a nice looking plant for a short time before the sawfly has it looking dreadful again . It’s been growing here for 40 years untouched with nothing until the last 3. I’ve got tired trying to manage it I’m afraid as I’ve got a lot of it but I’m trying to salvage one portion .
