Curled/Distorted Leaves on Dahlias

Hi All,

My dahlias are growing with twisted and distorted leaves. Please see the images attached. Does anyone know what is causing them, and what the cure might be? Would it be better to cut them right back to the ground and let them grow again?

Thank you!

Have you used any weedkiller in the garden or used any ‘bought in’ manure or compost?

I would cut that tall growth right down, there’s aphid and slug damage there.
still time for them to pick up if you can control the pests on them.

I've had the same problem!  I ordered a packet of dinner plate dahlias allegedly Russian but posted in Oldham 🤔 Anyway have eventually pulled them all out of the ground and binned them.
There were buds.........VERY SMALL. Leaves distorted, never encountered this problem before.
Always planning for next year........will order from The National Dahlia collection.
I am a dahlia fanatic and have many large flowering ones that I just leave in the ground over winter.
I will also buy some Bishop's Children seeds and collarette ones for front of borders
     (I give a lot away !)
My neighbour a few weeks ago gave me a pile of tops of dahlias....I prepared them as cuttings which I haven't done before with dahlias. Used rooting powder, they all took and are now in a nursery patch. Bingo ! Will wait and see.🤞
