This sprouted up in my garden a couple of years ago. Stuck it in a pot and have been potting it on ever since. I saw a couple on a piece of wasteland yesterday which got me wondering what it was. Any ideas?

Maybe it's a goat willow, unknown shrubs usually turn out to be one!

Looks like a goat willow to me ... Salix caprea ... not suitable for most gardens although great for wildlife if you have a few acres.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Sadly I don't have any acres at all☹️

Guess I'll keep potting it on for a few years then see if anyone with more space would like it.

    Thank you for your replies.

Sorry no sane person wants one. Your friendly compost bin would though.

Awww. See, now you've made me feel sorry for it, which means I'll end up keeping it! Hehe.

Thank you. Yeah might be a bit big for my little garden. Oh well. Maybe next time something more useful will self-seed. Keep getting Oaks and sycamores!
