3 week old turf.....should it look like this?

Hi, we laid a new lawn 3 weeks ago. It was lush and green. Have watered daily, kept off it etc. It now looks like this. Should I be worried? Do I need to rectify something? Thanks for anyone's help.

No it shouldn't, but I have established turf which has developed circular dead patches like those in your first and third images.  No idea what has caused them and I've never had a problem like that before.
  • Thanks, that's not giving me confidence :/

Several things spring to mind, dog or fox wee.
Possible poor drainage in those areas or something buried underneath.
Don't cut your lawn too soon or too short. I was told that the length of the grass roots mirrored the length of the grass, short grass = short roots so not enough to sustain the grass.
Not much you can do now but an autumn feed will help.

If you haven't got a dog, my guess would be something buried underneath affecting drainage as @k67 suggests
  • Thank you for your help. I shall keep an eye on it, and leave it to grow longer before cutting again. What feed do you suggest in the autumn?

There are many Autumn lawn feeds available (make sure you select one clearly marked as such).
Personally I would avoid one containing moss killer for a new lawn.

I don't have a dog either and the brown areas are all virtually identical sizes and perfect circles.  I wouldn't expect a fox to piddle that accurately.  I haven't seen any evidence of a fox in our garden for years.

I have one of those on my 'lawn'. I assumed it was fox pee.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Our lawn was re-turfed in 2019 and at the beginning of this year didn't look very good despite a wet winter. It was very patchy and brown in large patches with brown blades in between the green ones. I suspected a hydration problem. When my lawn treatment man came he tutted and tutted for a while before suggesting applying a wetting agent, to which I agreed. That was about 6 weeks ago and now I have never seen such lush growth in 44 years of living here. I accept that we have had plenty of rain since it was treated, but after last winter it was growing so poorly I was really worried. Could my remedy help your case?
