Wild strawberry and bind weed

I would like to create a small wild meadow in our garden. But our lawn is full of wild strawberries and bind weeds. What is the best way of getting rid of them? We have tried digging them out as the roots can go deep, we also have tried weed killer and mowing the lawn. But it just keeps growing back. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hmm.. trying to get rid of wild plants that flower for months and provide fruit for wildlife..  to make way for a wild meadow?

    1. Cover the entire area with multiple and over lapping pieces of cardboard (not hard to come by with lock-down online deliveries - ask your neighbors to save all their boxes for you).  Put down rocks to keep them in place.. or scrap boards.. etc.  Keep it in place and from curing up in the rain.  Most areas should be two or three layers thick with no light getting to the soil.
    2. In the spring, pull back all the cardboard (compost or burn) and till the soil.  Sow meadow grass seed for light levels and soil type.
    3. Hand pull any weeds you find, especially the bind weed.  The grass should outcompete the strawberries, if any survive eight months without sunlight.. but the bindweed will likely continue.  Lots of ideas for getting rid of bindweed in a post search. I have it all around my yard/garden and just deal with it in a few select locations.
