Dying/dead branch

Hi all,

One of the branches on my cornus tree appears to have died. Am I safe to cut the branch back to where I've indicated in the second picture?

Thanks!

That’s exactly what I would do. Cut just a bit closer to the ‘trunk’ but not so close that you’re cutting it flush with the trunk ... you need to leave just a slight bulge.

The idea was right, the execution was a bit poor!! @Dovefromabove is that small split going to cause a problem in terms of disease or something getting in?

Highly unlikely, dogwoods are as tough as old boots. Just give it as much water as you can manage and then a bit more - mine grow happily in a bog :)

I agree ... if that causes the demise of your Cornus I’ll eat my hat 😉

May I see the hat before I agree to those terms? 😀
