Moving Japanese Anemones

I’ve had to move some Japanese Anemones in the last week and they are not looking very happy.  I cut the flower stalks off when I moved them but the foliage is turning yellow and some of the leaves have flopped over. They are well watered and I added compost and fertiliser to the planting holes, but I’m wondering if I should cut all of the leaves off? Will they grow back if I do this, please? I want to give them the best chance of survival but I’m not sure what to do! Thanks for your help.

  • I would cut off the yellowing leaves and leave only the small new ones, if there are any. You may not get flowers this year, but the plants should survive. I moved mine last year and they sulked for a while, but are growing away quite happily now.

  • Thank you so much. I have cut the yellow leaves off and left the green ones on. Some of the plants have new small leaves but others don’t so time will tell! Thanks for your help 😊.
