    And some branch-thick roots from which thinner roots go straight down as well as along!

    To add to the joy, it is very prone to capsid bugs that riddle the leaves with holes and leave a revolting tarry substance on the flower buds.

    @Lyn - your acanthus needs stress to flower.  In your rich soil and moist climate all you'll get is leaves.  I had the same problem in the Belgian garden.   Bet it would do well here tho.  I've seen it growing in dust at the base of church walls and flowering its socks off in great tall spikes.

    I googled it and Oh dear i have a large cape fuschia and so many little ones popping everywhere  :open_mouth:

    @B3 how did you get rid of it?

    It isn't really a fuschia i think. Fuschia stays where you plant it.

    I dug it out. The bits growing too close to the fence to dig out, I just cut off every time they sprouted until they gave up. I suppose you could use weedkiller, but I never do.
