Moving Strawberry plants after fruiting

Hi,
Do you think it would be ok to move my strawberry plants now that they have finished fruiting and sending out runners, will it affect next years harvest, they have been quite successfully sharing a large bed with swiss chard which is growing really well & spring onions, this combo this year has been good as hardly any problems at all with any bugs or slugs so most definitely doing this again next year. Any advise is super helpful.
Thanks,
Bev

I move mine at any time, if I need to - regardless of what stage they're at.  :)
As long as they're well watered before lifting, and settled in and watered after re planting, they're pretty accommodating.
It's a good time to see if any need replacing though, and to peg down runners for new plants.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Hi, thank you for your help, I have always grown food for the kitchen in small amounts but not always been too good at strawberry / currents etc, so much appreciated, from both me & Ted the dog :) (the mad old cocker spaniel)

I haven't got a scooby what I'm doing but my strawberry plants don't seem to care. They've been propagated in pots, transplanted to a bed, left alone for years, moved back into pots and still thrive and produce fruit and runners for new plants. I started with two, have discarded a few along the way and now have about 30. Go for it!

I have strawberry plants and blueberry bushes but never get to the fruit before squirrels and birds ! Buying fruit cages means I may as well buy from market or supermarket .

  • Hi SueAtoo, I had the same problem for a few years but managed to break the mold but planting what you wouldn't think would work. Amazing how nature just sortings things out, hence now I do quite a lot of watching them as never used chemicals etc, kids, dogs plus wanted to just see what happens when you leave things alone. Its really good to try all sorts of different plant combos as I've found an amazing mix that you don't read in books.
