Climbing Rose Problems
I have two climbing Roses trained up a trellis which were planted about 5 years ago and they have flowered until this year. I did prune them back earlier this andI felt I had not overdone it and I left three quite strong shoots about 18 ins long.
This year although the shoots look healthy enough they have very little foliage which have not grown on or progressed. The soil looks clear of any beetles or insects and the stalks look quite green and do not appear to be infected. I have kept the roses well watered and I fed them rose feed and tomato liquid feed early on.

I'm no rose expert but if you chopped me off at the knees it would take a while to recover.
Some of my roses aren't growing very well but I've just put it down don't be changeable weather.
i just found it strange the way you will see on the photo that the foliage just appears but ceases to grow/flourish and remains stunted and here we are in mid July.
In trying to reshape the climbers which had 4 main shoots I removed 1 entirely and reduced the other 3. The climbers had become somewhat leggy but it seems that I have done damage and I will have to hope they will recover for next year.,
