Rose bush half flattened by weather

What is the best way to save this rose bush?  Cut off all the side nearest the viewer? - prune from the top? - prune from the bottom?  Looking forward to hearing your suggestions.

Hello Elaine, I wouldn’t prune it at all, shame to lose all those blooms, plus it would look rather lopsided. It may right itself, but if not, try pushing in some strategically placed supports, tie a length of twine or other soft material to one (a bamboo cane or similar) then gradually tension it and tie to the other cane to pull it back together, sort of rearranging the sprays as you go. Another pair of hands might help!

Lovely rose, by the way, such a vibrant pink, what is it called?

I agree with @Nollie. When the flowers are over, deadhead it and you might find that it rights itself when the weight of all that flower is removed. If not you can stake it, or prune if you like.

There was a tip on gardeners world last night for shrubs that look like this, I won’t be able to describe it properly but it’ll be on iPlayer
  • Thank you for your suggestions. I'll leave it for now & support it if necessary - and also take a look at iPlayer - what a shame I missed last night's programme! Yes - it's beautiful isn't it? It's 'Flower Carpet' var. Noatraum and was planted in Oct 1997 by previous owners of this house.

Thanks for the name of the rose, it is indeed beautiful! I did a similar cane and twine rescue job on a clump of crocosmia a few days ago - my dog suddenly decided the middle of it would be a great place to have a snooze 🙄
