Plant ideas

Patsy FPatsy F Posts: 53
I’m seeking ideas, please, on what to plant in this tall, blue pot. I intend positioning it in a focal point towards the end of the garden, it will get some sun and dappled shade. Ideally, I’d like light or variegated foliage, either a shrub or perennial, with a trailing or weeping habit. Had considered a Clematis, but already have a few. Thank you.

Much as I agree that you can never have too many clematis, Hakonechloa would be excellent in that as a focal point. Or one of the variegated Carexes.
    Or a Hosta....
Heucheras would be good too though - many good, strong coloured variegated varieties.

Most shrubs would struggle in that pot.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I must admit that I’m not familiar with the Hakonechloa, but agree it would look good, so definitely a consideration. Thank you.

This Hakonechloa Macra Nicolas is rather lovely - any thoughts?

Phormium Cream Delight, but not if it's too shady.  They grow much faster than Hakonechloa, so you would need to divide every few years, but that would give you a free extra plant.

A variegated ivy might be nice (Golden Heart has lovely foliage).  You could let it scramble over the side, and perhaps add a small obelisk of some kind (using bamboo or canes), so that it also gains some height.

There are a couple of Euonymus which spring to mind too.  Green and Gold, which grows fairly slowly for me, or Bravo which grows more qui
