Growing along side of  footpath through farmland seems to come up in same place each year

    Yes of course you are right that's really what a weed is, also says it's a vegetable presumably because you can use the root. Thanks for your help.☺

    A handsome thing indeed ... as long as you don't have a Golden retriever or Afghan hound or similarly coated companion ... getting those burrs out of their coats is 'fun'  :#

    Try to remove a bottom leaf...look at the stalk.
    If it is hollow then it is Arctium minus....common name lesser burdock.
