Poorly Himalayan birch

Hello, my three year old Himalyan birch is looking quite sorry for itself. I'm pretty sure it should be leafy by this time of year? The trunk and main branches look ok but the spindly ends are doing an excellent impression of being dead. Any thoughts?

When you say spindly ends, do you mean shrivelled up dried leaves or no leaves? If you have not seen any leaves this year, I'm afraid it's dead. Young trees are vulnerable to water stress. Did you water it well for the first 2 years? Buckets of water directly into the base of trunk every 3 days during the summer months is the norm for young trees.

Wind and extreme swings in temperatures can sometimes cause leaves to shrivel and dry up or fall prematurely.
