Ideas to extend fence for privacy

Hello everyone. My daughters patio And neighbours deck are both quite high making the fence itself only around 4ft off the patio. They have seen this item
https://www.cocklestorm.com/intermediate-fence-post-extension-pressure-treated.html This may work for some extra privacy to put a small trellis on top with something to scramble over it. Just wondered if anyone had any other ideas please?

Your fence posts are concrete, but the extension you showed the link for is wood. I'm not sure that would attach properly to the fence posts.  If it were me, I would attach a 6ft fencing panel beside the patio/decking part, as I really wouldn't want to see my neighbours sitting just over the fence.

For the rest of the garden, I would attach a wooden trellis.  Where you have paving, you could place some large pots or troughs there, and get some vigorous climbing plants to cover the fence.  You have plenty of soil to plant climbing plants that will scramble up through the trellis.

I presume that's a sofa on your patio?  Why not use that, by shoving it up against the 6ft fence panel, it would help to support it, but you would still need to attach any new fence panel to the existing one.

Thanks for your reply @KeenOnGreen.  Apparently they can be secured the fence part to hold an area of trellis on top.  Just spoke to the company that sell them. I just can't find any photo on the net to see what that might be like...You mentioned putting trellis further down.  Assume you mean putting the little shallow pieces of trellis on top of the wood panels as they are?  thank you.

Yes, that's right.  You can buy trellis which is about 2 foot in height.  That would give you that extra bit of privacy.  Ideally you would use some 2 x 1 wooden batons to secure them to your exisiting fence panels.  Others on here may have some completely different ideas, which may work better for you.

If your daughters neighbours are in their bedroom or standing on their deck will they be looking down on your daughters patio?

Does she consider this a problem ?

Are the neighbours concerned that she can overlook them ?

With 99% of houses this will always be a problem so unless she plants some very tall bushes in tubs on the patio then this will always be the case.

    A tricky situation.

Thankyou @KeenOnGreen and @NewBoy2 for your help. They’ve now seen some slatted screens in ikea that seem suitable. Happy gardening
