I had a similar problem; 1 measure the height of the waterbutt. 2 Cut the bottom of the downpipe off 6 inches above the height of the waterbutt 3 Attached the bent pipe from the bottom of the sawn-off section to the one still on the wall (not always necessary, but stops it dripping down your wall) if you don't have one, either buy one, or saw off 3 inches (not 6)instead. 4 put the waterbutt underneath the new, shorter downpipe 5 turn the bent pipe bit downwards so that the water doesn't splash out over the floor Took me about 20 minutes and I'm not great at DIY.
