    Berries can also add winter colour in the garden. Holly is the obvious one, with bright red berries and some varieties have attractive variegated foliage. Pyracantha gives you a choice of red, orange or yellow and there are many other berrying shrubs.
    Some plants have interesting seedheads or silhouettes and add  a little extra something to the border. 
    For flower colour many people grow indoor plants. A Christmas staple is Amaryllis, with lovely flowers that is easy to grow and can be in bloom for the big day. There is also the Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera) which can also perform if you get the timing right.
