Hardy geraniums

hi all. I planted 3 geranium Patricia in March/April of this year. Two of them are much smaller than the other and they also seem to have reddening leaves. Is this normal? Also none are flowering. Any suggestions? Photos below

Patricia turns red in autumn so I expect it's a reaction to the weather we have been having.
They are settling in and energy is going to the root system so probably no flowers this year.

You do know how big it gets don't you? May have to expand those borders when it takes off!

They do get rather large! They will scramble amongst the borders, which is very lovely but they need room.
Some of mine have reddened leaves and sometimes, if I give them a good trim, new green growth appears and a second flush of flowers. Try it 😊

    Really?

I can't think of a single herbaceous perennial I've planted in the spring/summer that hasn't flowered the same year.

An unusually warm dry spring followed by a cool spell ... coupled with a bit of possible transplant shock, the plants probably think it’s autumn.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Yours might but obviously his hasn't. Instead of being sarcastic can you advise him what to do

I wasn't being sarcastic, you've picked that up wrongly.

I'd be surprised if it didn't flower at all this year given we're barely half way through July is what I was getting at.
  • Thank you for all the replies. Still getting some red leaves but it seems healthy! Am re organising the borders a bit to give it more room thank you for the tip! I have now got some lovely flowers on one plant. The other two haven’t flowered. Going to give them some time and more room and see what happens next season. If still not happy will give them to someone with a much sunnier garden lol.
