Syringa issues

Hi All

I'm desperately hoping someone can help me. We have had in our garden for the last 4 years, my late Mamas syringa. it has been perfect all this time until now. 

I brought a small number of my parents plants with me when we lost them both and I really dont want to lose this one :(

is it blight or some sort of bug infestation?

I cant recall the stems being mottled before..they may have been and I didn't notice

    Is it planted in the ground or in a pot?  It looks as if it could have got too dry, perhaps.
    Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

    I understand how much you want to keep this tree. Can you explain a little more: what sort of soil do you have, how much sun does it get and how much do you water it? Is the lilac in a pot of the ground?
