Pond plant problems

I have a mature pond which has begun to show problems with the in pond plants.  The plants around the edges in baskets ( marginals) are romping on and really healthy but the others, including two new ones I put in 8 or 9 weeks ago are looking quite ill.  The Lilly ( one of the new plants)  I have taken out and put in clean water to see if it responds well but the once lush water hawthorn is on the pond bottom and I cant do that easily.  The pictures show my problem ( The single leaf is new growth that has just surfaced. ).  There are fish in the pond and they are fine.  Water tests show no issues and it is well oxygenated.  Thanks

  • Thanks Philippa, - the pond is about one and 1/2 feet deep and was "lush" when we bought the house a year ago so think it should do better .    The Lilly had 3 or 4 leaves, approx 2 inches across, when we got it which have all subsequently rotted like the hawthorn.

Mine often disappears in the summer too so I tried to find out why-
    From PuddlePlants-
Don’t be alarmed if the Water Hawthorn dies back in the summer it will reappear when the weather cools down and will start to flower again!

You lily will need full sun or as much as possible.
Did you acclimatise it to the correct depth if that was needed.
I have a mini one in my w/l pond - it survives and grows a few leaves but not a single flower in 3 years :(
The lily in my fish pond covers almost the entire surface and has lots of flowers, so it may be due to a lack of nutrients.

The pads on my water lilies were looking very sorry for themselves this year. There were ragged little tears which became much larger decaying black-brown blotches and eventually the leaf sank to the bottom of the pool. The suggestion from the RHS was hail damage which led to fungal infection.
