Mind the gap! Advice please?

I've spent a pleasant afternoon, albeit grey and dark for July, cutting back the Delphiniums and Foxgloves; they have been magnificent this year. My dilemma is how to fill the gaps - will planting periennals affect the performance of the latter next year? Should I source annuals? I do have some Larkspur, Delph Magic Fountain in the greenhouse, bought earlier this year as plugs. Advice please?

If you give them a good feed you will find that fresh growth will appear and you may have a second flush of delphinium.  I usually have a few perennials that I grow in plastic pots and drop into gaps in the border as and when they appear which could solve the problem next year. I wouldn't plant perennials in the same space but annuals might be ok.
