Anyone recognise this plant?

BettyWalesBettyWales Posts: 71
I was asked if I recognised a plant in a friend's garden but it had received a good prune and no flowers were on show. I didn't recognise it by leaf only and the buds are new foliage but I don't think it is anything unusual. Any suggestions please?

Thanks I think you're probably right. I'll have to ask if it had any spring flowers but it may have been pruned so hard last year as well, that the branches that would have flowered this spring may have had the chop as well! I know we all have to learn about a plants needs but some folk decide if it gets a bit too big, it gets cut regardless of what season or the consequences 😖 Cheers!

My rule of thumb for spring and summer flowring shrubs, is prune after flowering.  Too many people think they can trim it to shape like a hedge and still expect it to flower.

I fully agree with you on that tip thanks. Some novice gardeners seem to think of a plant as a decoration and not a living thing but we all have to start somewhere I suppose 👍

Probably because some tv gardening shows treat gardening as if it’s Interior Design rather than being about nurturing growing plants. 🙄
