  Lots of varieties of French beans have some 'purple patches' ... if that's what it is, it's quite normal.  The purplish colour will disappear when you cook them.

  As others say: "APPEARANCE, TASTE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF TENDERGREEN FRENCH BEAN The beans are best for eating when they are 15cm / 6in long. They are coloured mid-green and as the pods develop they have splashes of purple on them which fade when cooked."

  Thanks Bob. Some have developed without any dark patches which did puzzle me, but I'll have a portion for tea this evening!

  This year we're growing a variety called Purple Queen ... the pods are dark purple all over when fresh and green all over when cooked.  Tasty too.  The plants are pretty as the flowers are purple too.

  Hubby was really upset when last years purple dwarf french beans turned green when cooking 😂
