Veg seeds come from shops right?

As I'm a total novice to growing veg, it's started to dawn on me that having bought seeds, I've not considered how the vegatable produces it in the first place. ( a bit like when you ask a child where does eggs come from & they say the shops) like carrots, how do you get a seed from a carrot? Its baffling me & apologises…
