Cocktail Kiwi

We planted a Cocktail Kiwi vine over a year ago and it seemed to have established well and over late Spring it was growing new foliage and fruit was beginning to form. In the last week or so, the young fruit buds have dropped off and some of the leaves are beginning to curl and have brown edged holes.

Please advise what this might be and treatments we could follow.

    Hello Stewart ,
Must confess l hadn't heard of Cocktail Kiwi plants, but l did find this

The fruit drop may be due to erratic watering, but that is a guess .
There may be someone on here who grows them and can give you some more definite answers  :)

I don’t grow kiwi, but that does sound very much like a drought problem. Most climbers need plenty of water and despite recent rains a series of dry summers and a dry spring this year means that the soil a few feet below the surface is quite dry.

I would give it two buckets of water twice a week between now and mid September, whether it rains or not, then start again in mid March next year. Pour the water gently around the roots so that it soaks in rather than runs off the surface.

I don’t know whether it will produce more fruit this year but it’ll put the plant in better heart for next year.
