Grape vine yellow leaves

Hi,

A lot of the leaves on our Blank Hamburg vine have been turning yellow recently and dropping off and I’m not sure why. There’s loads of grapes and add a while it looks OK but I’m worried it’s spreading. Anyone know the cause or what I should do about it?

 Thanks!

 Rich

Could it be dry at the roots?

  • It was a couple of weeks ago, realised the wall/roof was sheltering it. I’ve been watering more since. Could that be all it is?

Give it plenty ... in dry weather mine has at least two buckets full of water every other day ... pour it gently over the root area so that it soaks down deep.

  • Will do, thanks!

I sometimes hear it said that vineyards cope without watering ... my reply is that established vines can be many years old, are planted in open ground and their roots reach down many feet  ... vines in our gardens are usually much younger and their roots are much nearer the surface and probably in relatively urban settings where a lot of rain doesn’t permeate the soil but runs off the surface. Very different situations.
