Goldfish disappearing

    Probably doesn't apply to you but we had a group of golden orfe and over the years just one remained.
    We restocked the pond with  koi, one of which leapt out of the pond and only the smell alerted us! The others disappeared as did other types we introduced.
    Finally moved the pond to nearer the house, moved the orfe and restocked
    but they all either died or disappeared.
    Last try with 5 goldfish and with the last remaining fish we discovered they were being eaten by the orfe!
    Moved and just have a water feature now. 😊

    @K67

    These things are often a mystery it seems. We don't have any Orfe but it's surprising to hear that they ate your fish.

    @Bijdezee
    Surprised me too! It was a big one though.
    When I mentioned it at the pond suppliers they said that it's quite common. Wish they had told me that before it ate over a dozen small fry.
    The orfe didn't live long after it ate the last fish and I found it inside. 🤤

    Why bother to make a post you have to apologise for? I will write my posts in any way I want to and it is not your job to judge how people write their posts. I have seen some really bad gramme and spelling, lack of editing out typos etc, and don't start me on the photos. I, unlike you, keep my mouth shut as its not my job to judge how others communicate.

    I'm quite shocked by the brass neck of your demand that I don't start my posts with 'so'. Just who do you think you are? 'new boy' if you are new to the forum then you have made a good start. Straight to the ignore list and please put me on yours.

    That was uncalled for @NewBoy2, this isn't a grammar forum.
    Well said @Bijdezee, but don't bother about him.

    do you feed the birds? i thought it must be a heron taking my goldfish until one day id just fed the birds and they were all milling around on the lawn, suddenly a crow darted off to the side, scooped up one of my goldfish and flew off with it in its beak! apparently its quite common and they have good memories too 'cos he kept coming back and i had to put a net over. i lost 5 sarasa's in my big pond in just one afternoon, ironically as i was at the garden centre replenishing stock, wondering where on earth they'd all gone!

    Grass snakes will also take fish I understand.
