Hey, does anyone know what this is? I cut it back a few weeks ago but its started to grow back with force. It has runners and it smells quite a bit. Rather unpleasant smell. Thanks in advance.

Yes, creeping buttercup. Cutting back will just encourage it. It has to be dug out, can be tough as it has lots of roots that try hard not to be dug out.

Agree with @Busy-Lizzie. It's a horrible weed (although the flowers are pretty) and has multiple very long roots. I get it in one of my borders. Just hate it.

Water the ground first and let it soak in a while.  Makes the roots much easier to shift.

Leave them on the side to dry out completely before you put them on the compost heap.

Urgh. Great, thanks. I'll try digging it out. Would covering the area and smothering it help?

Only if you have got out all the roots, it's a perennial and it spreads. If it were completely covered with black plastic or weed suppressant fabric for a year it might, but mulch wouldn't work.
