Most treatments for horse tail require multiple applications to be really effective.  That isn't actually so much of a problem if a lawn is being laid as repeated mowing does weaken and eventually kill horsetail.  Just don't put the mowings onto the compost heap as small parts from horsetail can regrow.

Horsetails are almost impossible to eradicate, in my experience. They are a very ancient life form which has existed from very early times. It is a survivor. It is true that mowing will keep them down but it is important to make sure that you get rid of every bit as they are so easy to spread around. I think that this is one case where allowing something to go to landfill is acceptable.

Thanks joy an KT53, just wsnting to kill them before i put new lawn down an they grow up through it.
Ive been reading up on it most of the day, an I think kurtail evo weed killer is the way to go as its especially for horse tail. Need to get it now before it spreads any further. An your right joy its been around for 400 million years. So its defo a survival expert.

It can be eradicated, but you would have to delay the lawn for 3 months.

Smudgerii, 3 months  i thought it dispersed in the soil in a few weeks.
Will it stay in the new topsoil that long.

The problem is that MPs don't have to visit the garden to sh*t on you.

One application will not work, believe me I tried, in fact Kurtail was a dissapointment.  I used ammonium sulphamate in the end, and would highly recommend it’s use on Marestail, even that would need more than one application.
